Energy Efficiency Retrofits

Homeowners can receive grants for a variety of energy-efficient upgrades, such as home insulation, air-sealing, windows and doors replacement, installation of smart thermostats, upgrading heating equipment, renewable energy solutions like solar panels, and resiliency measures to protect the home from environmental damages.

EnerGuide Evaluation

To qualify for the grant, homeowners must have a pre-retrofit and post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation conducted by certified service organizations, like Homesol Building Solutions which assists you though the process to obtain a grant or a loan. Flexible Application Process

Homeowners can apply for the Canada Greener Homes Grant through our trusted energy provider Homesol Building Solutions by filling out the form on their website or by calling them at 1 (855) 489-5305 to arrange the assessment. The home must be the primary residence of the homeowner and greater than six months old based on the date of occupancy of the first homeowner. Various property types, including single and semi-detached houses, row housing, townhomes, all-season cottages, and more, are eligible.

Additionally, eligible homeowners can also apply for an interest-free loan of up to $40,000, repayable over 10 years, to further support energy efficiency retrofits and improvements.

Total Home Energy Savings Program

Total Home Energy Savings Program

 

The Total Homes Energy Savings Program is a provincial rebate program made available by the Provincial Government of New Brunswick. This program covers many types of home energy upgrades, and while there is no cap on the total amount you can claim, there are caps on each of the upgrades offered. The most focused upgrades are on space heating equipment. New Home Energy Savings Program

The New Homes Energy Savings Program is a New Brunswick rebate available to home builders in the province. This program is meant for home builders who want to make more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly homes. There are $10,000 in rebates available to builders who have an Energy Assessment conducted by a qualified Energy Advisor to upgrade their homes.

NOVA SCOTIA 

Single Family Homes Program

The Single Family Homes program is a Nova Scotia program available to single-family homes. You can receive up to $5,000 in rebates and qualifying upgrades for your home. These upgrades include ceiling insulation, heat pumps, solar equipment, and much more. In order to apply for this rebate, a qualified Energy Advisor must complete an Energy Assessment of your home to see what upgrades your home is applicable for.

  • Ceiling insulation
  • Foundation insulation
  • Exterior wall insulation
  • Heat pumps
  • Wood/pellet burning equipment
  • Solar equipment
  • Electric Thermal Storage (ETS) System

 

Other upgrades:

Home Energy Assessment Rebate – Multi-Unit Residential Buildings
The Home Energy Assessment rebate for multi-unit residential buildings. To qualify, the building must have between 2 and 6 units. The property owner/landlord is responsible for signing all the forms, receiving the Renovation Upgrade Report, and the rebate cheque will be issued to them.

Tenants must also be notified of the assessment. Rebates received apply to the building as a whole, not per unit, and there is no rebate cap for MURBs (rebate is capped at $5,000 for other housing types). The upgrades covered are the same as the Single Family Homes Program, but the upgrades are available to qualifying multi-unit residential buildings.

The New Home Construction Rebates are rebates available to home builders in Nova Scotia when you have an Energy Advisor conduct a review of building plans and provide you with customized recommendations to improve the energy efficiency of the design. Included is an EnerGuide rating that tells you (and future buyers) that your home saves energy—and money. Depending on the efficiency of your new home, you could receive up to $9,000 in rebates. The more above code you build your homes, the larger of a rebate you will receive. Homes that are built to be Net Zero Ready, Net Zero or with a Passive House Certification get the highest rebates.

Homewarming Nova Scotia

The Homewarming program in Nova Scotia offers no-charge energy assessments and free home upgrades to eligible homeowners with lower incomes. The program focuses on making homes more energy-efficient and comfortable by providing draft-proofing, insulation, and other efficiency upgrades.

Key features of the program include:

– Energy Assessment: The program starts with a no-charge energy assessment to identify potential energy-saving opportunities in the home. Call Homesol Building Solutions to start the process.

– Free Upgrades: Eligible homeowners may receive free home upgrades, including draft-proofing, insulation, and other efficiency measures.

– Transition from Oil Heating: The program also supports the transition away from oil heating by providing free heat pumps for income-qualified homes that use over 1,000L of oil annually.

– Eligibility: To qualify, homeowners need to meet certain income criteria and own a single-unit home in Nova Scotia.

The Homewarming program aims to make energy efficiency accessible to income-qualified homeowners and help them reduce their energy costs.

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

Home Insulation Rebates Program

The Home Insulation Rebates Program is a program by the Provincial Government of Prince Edward Island. It is a program that helps homeowners with existing homes. This rebate covers the cost of more energy-efficient windows, doors, and insulation. The rebate amount varies based on household income and Islanders with a lower income can receive larger rebates. For the Home Insulation Rebates Program, low income is defined as an annual household income of $35,000 or less.

Upgrades Available:

  • Attic insulation
  • Above grade walls (with new interior/exterior finish)
  • Above grade walls (blown in insulation)
  • Exposed floors and headers
  • Below grade
  • Windows, doors, and skylights
  • Air sealing

The dollar amount of each of these upgrades is dependent on the income level and R-value (how thick the current insulation is) of the home, and is unique per upgrade.

Multi-unit Residential Building Efficiency Program

 

The Multi-unit Residential Building Efficiency Program is a rebate program for multi-unit residential buildings in Prince Edward Island.

Multi-unit residential building owners are eligible for energy efficiency programs such as home insulation rebates, energy efficient equipment rebates and winter warming help for low-income residents.

Energy efficiency upgrades can help make tenants more comfortable, save money for property owners and reduce the environmental impact of multi-unit buildings. Multi-unit residential building owners are eligible for energy efficiency programs such as home insulation rebates, energy efficient equipment rebates and winter warming help for low-income residents. These rebates help with a building’s energy efficiency and environmental impact.

To be considered for this rebate, each dwelling unit must be separate and self-contained (not a room rented out or “in-law suite”), must be three stories or less and have a footprint less than 600m2, and must be a long-term rental. The dollar amounts for this rebate vary on a large number of factors, to get started book an Energy Assessment with Homesol.

New Home Construction Incentives

 

New Home Construction Incentives are rebates available to builders in Prince Edward Island to design more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly homes.

After an Energy Assessment is completed or your home, and your home is built with energy efficient and environmental upgrades into it, you can apply for a rebate of up to $5,000.

 

You will be eligible for two tiers of rebates depending on the efficiency standard you achieve.  You may pursue certification through ENERGY STAR® or R2000, or alternatively, have your home rated through the EnerGuide Rating System.

For ENERGY STAR® for New Homes or EnerGuide rating of 20% better than code, you’ll receive a rebate of $2,000.

For R2000 or EnerGuide rating of 50% better than code*, you’ll receive a rebate of $5,000.

Either the homeowner or the builder may register, and the rebate will go to the homeowner. There is an option for the homeowner to request that the builder be paid directly.
